REDCLIFFE: High Speed Street Racing Caught By Queensland Police Chopper PolAir 2
I drove to Redcliffe Magistrates Court this morning to represent a client charged with High Speed Street Racing.
The charge of Street Racing is formally known as Racing and Speed Trials on Roads Race Between Vehicles or Animals on a Road.
Basically, my client and 2 other vehicles were detected at night by Queensland Police Helicopter PolAir 2 on infrared camera engaging in High Speed Street Racing.
Extreme infrared heat signals were detected on PolAir 2’s camera.
Speeds of up to 140 kilometres per hour were observed by the PolAir 2 crew.
The PolAir 2 crew dispatched an unmarked Police vehicle to the location.
My client and the 2 co-offenders were then intercepted.
In Queensland, motorists charged with Street Racing face a maximum penalty of a lifetime loss of licence, 6 months imprisonment and 40 penalty units.
A penalty unit in Queensland is currently worth $113.85.
Given the highly serious nature of the offending, I prepared lengthy and detailed written submissions summarising the relevant case law.
I also prepared comprehensive and detailed verbal submissions.
I had my client attend 2 reformatory courses, totalling 18 hours, and I drafted detailed Affidavit materials on my client’s behalf, explaining the lessons learned both at the 2 courses, and as a result of the incident.
I provided my client with a character reference template, with which his referees based their references, each of which I also tendered.
I was able to persuade the Magistrate to disqualify my client’s licence for no more than 7 months.
My client also received a modest fine.
My client was very pleased with the outcome.
